Today I was able to spend some more time on the project. I was fabricating some of the assessory parts that attach to the firewall.

Yesterday I spent most of the day at the hangar working on the firewall. After I had located most of the parts I got them placed and then did the final drilling. This is probably about step three on the plans for the fuselage, but it feels good to be making some progress.

Fuselage

I spent a couple of more hours on the project today. I got the firewall out and then located all the parts (mounts, stiffeners, and braces) and arranged them and got most of the clecos in to hold everything in place.

Got started on the first step in building the RV-7 fuselage yesterday. Following the plans on Drawing #19 I had to take a piece of heavy aluminum to build these mounts for the firewall. I took some time to measure and draw all the lines and angles on the stock. Then I used a band saw to cut it all out. Once I had it roughed out I used my belt sander to true it up.

The fuselage kit arrived via motor freight on December 2nd. I got a couple of friends to help me unload the box (301 lbs) and put it in the hangar. for the next few days I went through all the parts and did a complete inventory. I couldn't find the packing list so I had to call Van's and got them to e-mail a copy to me. As I was going through the different parts and pieces I pulled the two skins out of the bottom of the box and found the packing list taped to the underside of the bottom most skin in the box. I finally got through all the parts and am satisfied that I have everything that's supposed to be with the kit.
